Default New Owner Sammio 550 Spyder

HI to all,

Just a quick note to say that i've done a deal with Gary and going to be continuing the good work he's already done with the 550 spyder.

The manufacture of the kits and cars will be in Northern Ireland (no wise cracks about DeLorean pls!) but I've already estabished a UK agent who will stock chassis, bodywork and parts to keep costs real for those of you interested.

I'll probably take a few months to look at the progress Gary has made then take it forward bit by bit. Comments are all welcome.

Robin

Congratulations on your new business venture.

Glad you picked up on the DeLorean link before I pointed it out.

I had a mate in the 'Forces from NI who's family all worked in the DeLorean factory: he said at home they all sat on DeLorean seats, their cars were held together with DeLorean nuts'n'bolts and they flicked their ciggy ash into DeLorean wheel centre caps. They'd pinched everything they could lay their hands on at the factory and all their mates did the same. I can't understand why they went bust...

I live beside Theipval Barracks in Lisburn home of the Army in Norhtern Ireland!! Well i must be a good 200m away - helicopters overhead everynight while working in my garage!

I'll be listing DeLorean ashtrays (wheel centre caps) on ebay soon, £10 for a £1! it's either that or a funky looking gullwing 550?

Thx for your reply and interest.
Robin

Yep - i'm keen to develop the 550 and keen to hear from you guys in any improvements that you feel should and could be made. I'll be fairly active as I'll be looking at other builds to get ideas etc. Every day is a school day!

ROBIN,
Welcome to our little forum....
If I am correct , one of your agents will be in Newton Abbott , deep into the West Country.....the hub of all Sammio activity !

I will echo whats being said and say good luck with the venture - from our conversations , it seems to be in good hands ...

Have you come up with a new name yet ?

Good luck with your new venture Robin ,
i became a member of this site after seeing a
550 whilst googling, contacted Gary and was amazed
by the community spirit of this site.
So I hope you do the project justice as I may be a customer
Soon
Are you thinking along the same lines as the sammios
As in a basic body and frame or a more developed "kit"
As I like Gary philosophy keeping costs real! All the very best
Roy

I'm thinking of developing the chassis more in line with the original but still using low cost of the shelf solutions for suspension and brakes etc. I want to keep the car simple. I'm my opinion it's sometimes more cost effective for a builder to buy a part that simply bolts on rather than having to refurbish and try to fit something cheaper?

I'll also keep the original jigs so that i can offer a vw beetle based chassis or a more advanced chassis. Both chassis options would use the same bodywork. I'll need to have a good long look at what gary's done so far then take it forwards - the more input from you guys the better!

I hope to get a website up and running early new year so that everyone can see the development for themselves.

Keep in touch.

Robin

Yep - I've got someone interested in looking after the UK mainland part of the business. I've just have to get my head around everthing else first. I'll keep the forum posted.

Thx for your support!
