Just back from running a performance check on my private road after switching the inlet manifold. I know it. Has been a while since I did that but I have been busy with other stuff.

No video but 20-80mph was done in 8.65 averaged over three runs.

This is down from 8.86 before the swap. Interestingly almost all the gain was at the top end. 60-70 and 70-80 were both 0.10 quicker. Across the rest it was pretty much identical, slightly slower at the start if anything, but building the advantage as the speeds increased.

Interesting looking at the total real world performance gains I have managed fairly cheaply. Originally 20-80mph was 9.94secs and now down to 8.65. Not as much as I hoped for but it does feel stronger across the Rev range so I guess I am happy.

That's quite a big gain , around 10%. If you managed to do that with off the shelf used parts you have done well. Back in the day we all fitted a 4 into 2 into 1 manifolds and a K@N air filter. A 10% gain was rare and if you saw a gain at all it was all top end , red line stuff. Your upgrade is mid range real world gain, well done!

Funny thing is the biggest gains were made by a £5 spray can of contact cleaner on the MAF sensor and a plant pot!

K&N filter on its own did nothing.
High volume inlet manifold took just 2/10ths off.

As I said though, I am happy enough and the clock shows it is real gains, not just that it feels more powerful.

From concept to reality. Can you tell which is which?

Off to the paint shop so should get lots more photos in a few days time.

Nick
I will show you the secret to getting the bonnet to 'pop' up properly so that when you fit the other freshly painted bonnet you will not need your bit of wood any more....

Today has been mostly good. Okay, it took 2 1/2 hours to get to Nubodi from Southampton but then I got to collect the Barchetta and drive back with the roof down and smiling. Better weather protection than a summer t shirt might have been a good idea but got home cold but happy.

Yeah I like that, great idea WCA the question now is which version are you driving to Stoneleigh? Might need to change the front fires before then though

Great success, well worth the effort and another sales opportunity for Chris.

Very nice, Nick. I like the Z300S front too, so it must be fun deciding which to fit.

The thing I really like about it - and this doesn't really come across in the pics but when I saw it in the flash at Nubodi when they were prepping it for paint - is the arch shape. It's a lovely tear drop like the original swb - unfortunately you don't get that on the full swb kit nose, it's more angular for some reason. But the combination of the swb bonnet to the top of the arch and the 300 panel below that line really works and gives a much better arch shape. Nice one - and totally unique!

Come on then, tell us why. Is it because you can fit different fronts or is it something more personal
