Default Sods law

The plan today was to start the car, drive it out of the tent and put it on the ramps where
I could trim the fibreglass sills and get them bonded on.
(Before it rained later)

It started and I drove it out, I was keen to see the “stance” as it had not been moved since all the major suspension lowering etc. So I wanted to see how it looked after it had “settled”.

I took some pictures, and was pleased with the ride height and more importantly,
(To me at least) was the distance between the top of the wheel arches and the wheels.

Sods law, we all know how this works don’t we? Well today sod was totally determined this would be HIS day not mine, as I started to drive up the ramp the throttle cable snapped, of course I was mildly irritated at this setback.

Sod was having fun! Then it started to rain, mild irritation it was not.

On checking, the stop had come off the throttle end of the cable, I whacked on an electrical connector to sort this out, it was still raining

Jumped into a soggy car and turned the key to find the starter motor had jammed!

Sod was beside himself now, and I was not amused.

Can it get any worse I wondered……..

Chucked a sheet over the now sodden car, and put a spanner on the end of the motor only to find it was rounded off!

Starter motor off time in the pi**ing rain, what fun!

Long story short, oiled up the bendix, put the motor back on, took the sheet off the car
(Still in pouring rain) turned the key, flat battery again…………

I think sod was taking the piss.

Eventually I got the car back in the tent having achieved virtually f**k all, except the knowledge that I need a new starter motor, and will order one today.

To end on a positive note, I was pleased with the result of my lowering efforts, as I think the car is progressing well in the stance department.

Thank you SO much for that!!
All The hours of thought and effort I've put in to try to achieve it,
now seems worthwhile!

I think he was referring to the cartoon SOD drinking wine in your picture ;-)

Sounds like the day I had a while back fixing the screen wash. Doing something else, spot the problem, extract the washer, fix the problem, put is all back together, check it works, drive around and realise all the fix has failed and start again in the rain.

Default Wheels

The wheels are all done and ready to go on! They are much wider, and will increase the track by another 50mm or so!

Scottie.... Enjoying your build thread, very entertaining...!!
Keep it up.. Like the stance too, the best yet, although personally i
wouldn't go any lower, probably start having drivability problems..
I'm afraid you've gone and done it now, you've posted a pic of your
finished wheel....
You realise you now have to go and fit a couple and drive it outside
and take some more pics...! ....yes you do...

Thanks Ollie and Mr T!
I think if it wasn't raining yesterday I would have bolted a couple of the wheels on as a kind of "reward" for all the hassle I've had lately!

Go on, treat yourself. Would love to see them fitted to give an idea of how the car's going to look when it's finished.

Default Wheels

Oh......... alright then! Ooooh, you are awful!!

By popular demand, Didn't really want to do this! (He Lied!)

Been gagging to do it for ages really........

Bear in mind the car will be painted almost black British Racing Green, which will accentuate the curves, and highlight the wheels even more.

Here we go:

Oh my god YES YES YES.

This, is perfection. I was going to ask if you were going to fit taller tyres but i suppose there's no space under there.

That looks very good, they fill the arches nicely. Good choice of wheel and tyre. Now come on, get it finished and painted...

Down n out:

1 No there is no space!
2 on full lock the front tyre fouls the bulkhead!
3 I want to use theses tyres as they are brand new!
4 I will most likely move the bulkhead back one way or another, so I
can use them!
Oh, and Thank you for your kind words!

Scottie - As others have said your car has a great stance with those wheels.

That must be a real boost during this miserable winter weather.

If you have a look at Mister Towed's build thread you will see he "adjusted" his bulkhead to accommodate is wheels.

If I recall correctly he applied a big hammer to reshape it and then bolted the whole thing "back a bit".

Finally, I know exactly how Mr Sod likes to play games when you are trying to get things done outside.

Good luck, Paul.

Thanks for that Paul, I knew someone had a similar problem on a Sammio / cordite thread, but it would have taken me ages trawling through them all to find it. Now I can ask Mr T, the man himself!
