Danny, if you do the maths (on Chris' behalf), if he employed someone at £30k pa cost to employ, he would probably have to sell an extra 60 to 100 kits per year just to break even. All very well in theory, but the market for these kits is pretty limited.

Nail on the head.

The primary issues with licensing are:

Quality control
Manufacturer MUST fix pricing for the licensee.

Chris is on the correct road with this IMO.

An experienced GRP laminating shop would be able to lay up these body molds up in double quick time. The hard work is already done ie making the molds. Whoever takes it on should be profitable from the word go with the current pricing structure even after licenses are paid.

Sounds like an outbreak of agreement

Chris, you must be pleased that your customers agree with your business plans!

Now, about the new models...

Hi Nick,

Long time no see. I'm guessing you haven't painted your 250 yet?

Don't work too hard.

Paint, paint!

No, not yet, but one day!
As to working too hard, that's the 'pot calling the kettle black' I think!

Regards to you both,
Nick

Still working on my MX but money is very tight. Anyhow, here's a couple of other ideas for Chris for the future - the link below has a body shell for a Chevron B16 and a McLaren M1a. I reckon the McLaren could work on an MG TF base.

I'm usually a fan of lowered cars, but some people just take it too far...

Default 250 SWB Kit Price Increase

Due to several factors we have decided to outsource the 250 SWB hard top and soft top kit production. This will have an obvious cost implication to us and to maintain profit margin we will be increasing the kit prices as follows:

The above post should have read:

250 SWB Hard Top Kit price = £4995
250 SWB Soft Top Kit price = £3995

http://www.tributeautomotive.co.uk/250swb.html

Existing orders that have been placed and deposits paid will be honoured at the original agreed price.

Full support to you Chris. Focus on you talent and outsource the rest. Kit prices still look good value compared to what else is out there., just keep an eye on the quality (as always).

Good luck

Website and eBay advert prices will be altered to reflect this shortly.
Sounds fair, it seems that the target customer is spending lots to get them on the road and worrying about making profit at resale.
Time to recoup all those unpaid hours developing the product.

Agreed, which is why I like mine.

1/ Bought from Chris as a basic fitted kit at an affordable price.
2/ A year to gradually sort it as funds/plans allowed whilst enjoying driving it around.
3/ Doing it in the colour/wheel style/everything else choices that I wanted and choosing not to consider resale value in those choices.

Not everyone's way, but it means that I've been able to enjoy all the assorted hot rod and customs that I've had, for what they are, my ideas of the ideal version of that vehicle.

All the best for you and your plans Chris.

cheers, Bob.

Quite a big rise but I can understand why you have done it . I'll have to save for a few months longer before I place my order ! Will they be using the existing molds or taking a new one ?
