The seats in my Sportster were fixed direct to the floor pan with just oversize washers on the bottom. Obviously got through its test with the Ministry just like that.

I used 100mm square plates under the rear seat mounting bolts to spread the load in case of a front collision, as surely the seat would want to throw forward (regardless of seat belt anchoring points) and I wasn't convinced the floor panels by themselves were of sufficient strength. No questions from the IVA man.
Although by spot welding the bolts to the seat runners I could just drop the seats into the holes into the floor panels and bolt them from underneath the car. Simples

This is an interesting area where the new IVA seems to be a little less onerous than the old SVA manual.
I fitted steel strengthening bars across the floor and bolted the bars to the chassis but I couldn't remember why?
So I went back to a copy of the old SVA manual which also said...
Seats are required to be secured firmly to the
chassis or other obvious load bearing parts of the
vehicle structure.

I think at the time, I was probably worried that the floors would not be considered part of 'the chassis or other load bearing part...'. The key word 'chassis' now seems to have been dropped from the IVA requirement and experience suggests that spreader plates are regarded as sufficient.

The other point to note is that I left fixing my floors until towards the end of my build and they do become much stiffer once pop riveted all around the edge.

I have found a nice pair of mx5 seats, and they work a treat. Thank you for the info.

Default Suzuki Cappuccino seats available!

Anyone interested in a pair of Suzuki Cappuccino seats?

The guys at the address below are offerring a pair with nbo rips for £200 which seems like a pretty good deal!
