Default BMW V12 engine mated to Audi A6 gearbox

Have been looking at the UK's two replica Diablo manufacturers and noticed that they both are using the BMW 750 engine (V12 5.0 litre) mated to an Audi gearbox. Alloy engine with 300 bhp as standard...Mmmm Any body know if the Audi box is good for this type of power? Your thoughts appreciated. If I can't afford a Lambo replica then I may consider another kit with this setup so just wondered if any other companys use this set up or are 'swinging ' this way?

Default Must be the way forward!

Was reading the lamboreplica forum (www.lamboreplica.co.uk) and noticed that dc supercars are now producing the bmw to audi adapter plate. They must be confident that it is the way forward, or they have a lot of money to throw around on a whim!

a 5 litre V12, longitudinal? sounds ideal for my stratos rebuild. i'd been thinking along such lines, but knowing what gearbox to use was a stumbling block. mind, 300bhp seems a little soft - my V6 2.7L puts out 200bhp without tuning. would i appreciate the extra 100bhp considering the extra weight of the engine, plus extending and bracing the chassis? also, the handling gonna be way different.

or perhaps if it was transverse?

sorry, no help to you, just thinking out loud.

Default How about the M73 5.4 V12 BMW?

The 5.4 litre gives out 324bhp being restricted by the ECU's on the BMW. 380 bhp can be got from an after market ECU! The engine then becomes an 180mph supercar instead of being limited to 155mph! Same bolt pattern on the 5.0 litre as the 5.4 litre so should fit the adapter plate!!

I've use the BMW V12 in my project, but I am using a Porsche gearbox as the Audi will not take the power my twin turbos will kick out. I am told the right Audi is good for 450bhp though.

here is the adapter plate I had made.

I also know quite a few people who have used the Audi box to the BMW V12 and I think parrell were also doing a kit.
It's not hard to get your own machined up anyhow.

Hi Andy, what are you building? Is it the G50 box? Where did you get twin turbos from for the BMW?

I am building my car from scratch. The box is actually a GT3 item from a cup race car and is effectivelly the strongest box from the 911 series (also used in the twin turbo and GT2). It also has the bonus of the fantastic porsche cable shift system.

The turbo's etc are new Getrag hybrids to my own spec as will be the rest of the twin turbo kit... the engine is actually ideal for turbocharging as it has an ideal 8.8:1cr as std and can take 15psi totally stock... 10psi gives well over 500ftlb without even opening the engine!

I should add that I am refering to the M70 as the M73 and S70 (if you can find one) both run a much higher cr to get a little extra NA power.

Here is my site.

love what you're doing Andy- any idea when it's gonna hit the road?

the front bonnet still looks a bit bland - perhaps a duct to feed air to the heater, or a bulge or a scoop or a crease or . . . (i have the same problem with my new bodywork)

I did have a scoop but removed it as I wanted to keep the front end clean a la Porsche GT... hence why I designed the headlight pods. I may still add a scoop later but I want to put some colour into the buck before I decide.

Hitting the road is a distant dream, I hope a couple of years but I said that a couple of years ago.

Have you seen the DC Roadster belonging to a guy named sam h? He is running four turbo's and 736bhp........on a standard Audi A6 transaxle! He has covered over 7000 miles with no problems! Just goes to show them Audi boxes are strong.
