Fixed mudguards are normally far more robust. The only thing you will have to contend with is, as they don't turn with the wheels, if you happen to be unlucky to be out in the rain each right hand bend will soak the driver with spray and each left hand bend the passsenger. But that's all part of the fun...

Yeah, If I'm caught in the rain that's the least of my worries

Almost finished them now - haven't driven it yet but they seem much more sturdy to me.
