Are you planning on coming up to Stoneliegh?

I have some exhaust wrap you could put around the pipe where it goes through the metal clamps to reduce rattle

That exhaust looks like an OEM part. Nice work.

Default Sound

Well I got the car down off the blocks, and was able to drive it outside and have a good look at the exhaust.

It is the first time the system has been gas-tight, and although I have insulated the silencer from the sill (with plumbers mats) I have not yet got any heat wrap on the rest of it.

The plan is to get heat resistant padding in between the exhaust and the body/chassis where it is bolted on in order to minimise vibration.

In answer to Ollie, Wow! you have to hear the sound to believe it!
No one would ever think there was anything less than 3 liters under the bonnet making that lovely growl.

I can't wait for a drive-past at full belt!

In answer to Jaguartvr:

there is some slight vibration, but not a lot, and after the heat padding treatment it should minimise that even. I don't think I shall have to resort to plan "B".

With that sound, I don't mind checking all the nuts and bolts after every long trip!!

There must be some hard-up European soldier somewhere, who flogged his steel helmet on Ebay, who would be really amused to think some crazy Englishman had bolted his tin-hat to the side of his car!

Here are some better pictures of the thing itself:

I forgot to add that today I bought some paint for the car, I chose "Connaught green" which is basically black, but in a certain light, there is a hint of dark green sometimes, providing you have 20-20 vision.

Colour should look great Scottie (even though I'm in the 'green cars are bad luck' camp myself).

Your exhaust looks so 'factory fit' that nobody will guess how much skill and effort went into it, which is a shame.

Don't underestimate the importance of the sound a car makes - I was directing traffic at a road closure yesterday when an F Type coupe came past. First impression is Wow! it looks great and much smaller than I expected. But when it took off up the road the sound it made was just awesome - a smooth roar with a fiery crackle on the overrun. Nice. Much as I dislike automatics I think I could be persuaded.

Now, I need to check my lottery numbers - there's a UK winner of around £70,000,000 last night...

Connaught green is so dark, it does almost look black, so the bad luck should really be minimal Mr T?

Don't worry Scottie, Phil J's car is in a Jag green that's so dark it almost looks black and he's not had any bad luck with it.

Oh, apart from a GT6 crashing into it on the track.

Oh, and accidentally filling it with diesel.

Oh, and having a carburettor needle come undone miles from anywhere.

Oh, and having someone steal the dome nuts holding the flyscreen on while it
was parked.

Etc...

At least it still looks the business even when it's broken down at the roadside.
