I thought a tenner was a bargain for what I got Ian, but I suppose an enterprising pc nerd would easily remove the sample mark to save a few pence!

I will try out my wording on the sample and then do a job on the actual when it arrives and laminate it.

Car looks the dogs bollocks on the road scottie, i am certainly envious as i had hoped to have mine on the road by now but it looks like it will be a few more months, enjoy the grin factor and the attention the car gets.

After reading a couple of post on this thread about old tax discs i google 1955 tax disc images, copied one then adjusted the colour and cloned the hand written reg out in photoshop and hey presto it works, only thing is i am not to sure on what the background colour was of that era, the copy i have is a light yellow orange.

That pic I posted of mine Swifty was the right colour for 1955.

P.S. You'll get there Swifty, I had hoped to have mine on the road over a year ago, but I just had to keep working until I got it looking how I wanted it, and of course that takes time!

I forgot to mention that other day that I sent off the forms to the DVLA for re-registering the car, I will post in due course.

Having built a very nice D Type, Mick O'Malley sent off his forms and got the V5C back, which had on it "Triumph Spitfire"

When he queried it, he was told: "yes, you re-bodied it. but its still a Triumph Spitfire" Oh well..............

He obviously used the wrong wording on the form. Much discussed on this forum- you should be able to call the car what you like (within reason) and neither the manufacturer nor the model needs to reference the original donor.

I agree that you should be able to call the car (within reason)
what you would like it to be know as, but it seems it depends who deals with your request at the DVLA and what mood they are in at the time. I think Mick did follow the forum rules, and did things more or less correctly, but came unstuck anyway.

Get Mick to query it and they may reregister it. Mine went from X3 to Z300S Replica to Z300S Barchetta

Scottie - Good luck with the DVLA.

My understanding of the V5C rules is the same as IanA and it should work as followed:

Model - Disappears completely.

Make - Any name (within reason) up to 20 characters long.

Although I kept Triumph in my new name, you no longer have to.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Mick O'Malley - If you want a different name on your V5C, then I'd sent it back and ask for one.

Initially my new V5C Make was "Triumph Swordfish1.5" as they attempted to merge my original name onto the single Make line.
( I had picked Make = Triumph & Model = Swordfish 1500 )

But once I realised it all had to fit one a single line it became a "Triumph Swordfish".

Getting the re-body accepted was hard, but renaming the new V5C was easy.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Gary - Nice try, but no.

You still have to notify the DVLA of the re-body even if you keep the old name.

As they still need to add the following "Special Notes" to the front page of your V5C.

Cheers, Paul.

PS
Sorry, just seen WCA has posted some similar advice to Mick.

Well, my documents have just arrived fresh from the DVLA's sweaty clutches.
and I am pleased to inform any interested parties that I am now the proud owner of a:

Triumph XKSS

Sports

Historic Vehicle

Green

Now I cannot really argue with that now can I?

Having just come out of hospital following a hernia repair, right now I feel as though Iv'e been kicked in the goolies by an enormous elephant, and am not feeling like much at all Ian!

Driving is not on the agenda, but lots of agony surely is!
Have not managed to get to a show yet for various reasons, but will eventually.

I need to get my GT6 Mot'd and transfer the number over onto my XK, then I'll be happy. ( That was always the plan)
Then we will see, I always seem to have loads of small projects on the boil!
