Default Here comes the Donor

Treated myself to a lovely dark blue Rover 416 p reg today.Apart from no water in the engine, well not the cooling side ;-) not bad for £60 notes with a 'new' gearbox and clutch just been fitted......So bring out the spanners this week end oh and a tarpaulin as the kids don't want to see a Rover on the drive..........

one down one to go. nice to see some new builders coming alive and all full of energy, are you keeping to the Marlin design side of things or are you thinking of running the honda shafts and hubs at the rear?

Jon,will probably discuss that with you and others nearer the time.Looking at the blurb, the 400 series has a different heater and pedal box to the 200.Clutch being hydraulic rather than cable, guess I'll have a look when it lands on the drive.I wonder if it will make 5 miles with no water?

The pedal box is different, but easily modifiable. You gain the advantage of hydraulic clutch too. You will need to mod the front bulkhead to fit the clutch res.

The steering column is different (mount points). I ended up getting an old R200 one from the scrappy.

The clocks are bigger, so you will have to either modify the dash (this is what I have done) or use after market clocks. The problem with fitting R200 clocks is that the speedo is electronic where as the R200 is cable.

The heater unit is bigger than the R200. I tried modifying it, but in the end picked up an R200 one from the scrappy.

The brake master cylinder assy is bigger on the R400. Again I got a R200 unit.

Both the Heater, brake master cylinder and Steering Column are the same on the older R200 as the bubble shape.

The engine mounts are different. Marlin can supply some mounts and rubbers.

You'll also need the rear uprights from a R200 and rear callipers as R400 is drums.

Just in case you haven't guessed, I am using a R400 (P plate) donor.
