Hi Rich,
its been a bit quieter on the Sportster front as well, until very recently.
We have a brand new builder (NigelB) and two new potential builders (Dennis and Rob). We hear that even Mark is building a new factory demo car!

The MOC forum gets no posts at all in its 5exi section so i don't know where all the 5exi builders have gone?
Steve keeps his 5exi build site regularly updated...

Maybe there are some lurking on the forum but too shy to make an appearance?

Default Cold and Thankless Garage

It's always a difficult time to be smiling in this period between Christmas and Easter. Its cold and Christmas does take up a lot of time.

I have also been working on another car project which is now finished so the 5Exi is back on my radar.

For my own part I have my 5Exi in the body shop where its been for 5 months, one of the penalties of saying 'keep the costs down, time to deliver not important'.

I do visit the car every 2 weeks and keep track of progress. So far the fat rear arches are progressing nicely, they have grafted in one for me to check the fit and feel and I have given them a pair of 16" fat wheels to build too. One side is now look tough and well filled. Once it primed up I will post a pic for you to judge the finished product.

Other than that I have been working, have to earn some money to pay for the toys....

Some shiny new tools for Christmas went down well though ...

Happy building

Happy New Year everybody.

What a difference a year makes. Last Winter, I had the car jacked up in snow fitting gearboxes and driveshafts. Now the car is on the road and just minor repairs/mods, it can stay in the cold garage!

Though I did go for a drive in it a couple of days ago. Remind me on cold tyres, cold road not to floor it in second up a dual carrageway. It hit full boost in a straight line whilst accelerating. Then the rear tyres decided they they no longer wanted to grip the road surface. Remembered though. Ease off the accelerator rather than off altogether!

And here was me thinking of increasing the boost from 18psi to 23. Not during Winter!

My car is enjoying the cold, damp, slightly messy environment of my garage, and has been doing so since my last track day in October. Still absolutely covered in filth, and looking rather neglected!

RFL & MOT are needed before I can drive it on the road, and with current fuel prices I'm not too fussed about sorting either, and will save the cash for track day fuel.

Happy new to you all as well.

peterux - I do keep my build diary updated regualary.

Im in a bit of a lull at the moment. I havnt had much time to get out into the garage.
My wife has just had an op 4 days before Xmas (nothing serious) so she needed some care during the xmas break, my mum broke her arm badly just after xmas, and had was admitted to hospital on new years eve, to have an op on new years day to put the bones back together with a wire. So she stayed with me for a couple weeks, and I went into "carer" mode, I thought it would be a bit rude to leave them to it and get into the garage. Both recovering well now.

Im going through a fairly large re-weld job at the mo, so there isnt too much to update you all on. Ive sourced a windscreen (non heated) so I needed to fit a heater matrix to get the tick in the box for IVA demisting, I used the small module from carbuilder solutions. My seats are fitted, but the steering column isnt central, about 3inches to offset to the left, if i dont correct it now, i never will. So Im currently in the process of trying to get that centrally fitted. So ally my work on the pedal box is being re done.

Ive also got some weld beeds added to all the stainless pipe connections, air and water, to make the silicon hoses and clips a bit more secure.

As for other 5exi builder, Im getting a few contacts coming to me via my website, there are a few 5exi builders in holland at a university, one in sweden.

Cheers
Steve
