d&O - I said exactly the same thing to Chris last Saturday. The Z3 has a stumpy little arse at the best of times. Once he added another foot to the nose I feared it would look stupid.

That was my biggest fear when I saw the first photos but even from the first picture showing the dry fitted back end (top of this page) I could see the proportions worked. Hence my comment : Just me loving the back end to?

BTW we have worked out a way to get side exhausts with twin exits each side

More pictures of Chris's great work arrive earlier this evening but because I am stuck in a hotel with an iPad I can't work out how to post them up.

Suffice to say I have a lovely looking back end

That's looking really good. Should look superb when it's finished. Have you chosen a colour yet?

Have you chosen a colour yet?

Yes.

Many times.

Every time it is different.

At the moment it is claret/burgundy. Sort of like this

If you look at the back wing of the G46 I was originally building you can see the remains of where I tried the colour.

I find it works nicely to show off the lines, better than the default Ferarri red but for some reason I keep getting dragged back to blue...

and then again there is...

Look what you have done now!

Picking the right colour is a lot of fun
I agree that if you go with red, it should be a subtle shade rather than a pure red - I don't think Porsche Guards Red, or the reds used on VAG and SEAT cars would be suitable for example. It's noticeable that reds used on Italian cars tend to be a less obvious colour in the grey weather we enjoy so much, but really pop when it's in the sun. Maserati and Alfa reds come to mind.

MacLaren Lave Red is in top position at the moment. I wonder if they stock it in Halfords

Id go for a solid colour. Much more retro and period correct. Modern metallics are just going to make your car look, well, modern. Which isnt the imperative i dont think!

Do whatever you want of course, but thats my thoughts on the matter.

I know I keep banging the drum for silver, but it's still my favourite colour. Everyone told me that it would be the hardest colour to prep and spray, but I've found that my ham fisted spray job actually looks period correct.

The silver cellulose has taken on a shine without being too glossy but still comes to life in the sun due to the metallic particles in it. It was interesting loitering near it in the car park at Goodwood and listening to some of the comments, like "That's the original paint, you can't fake patina like that." Actually, it looks like you can

Whatever colour you choose you're going to have a nice looking car at the end of it.

Oh, are you spraying it yourself?

Solid not metallic - agreed. The MacLaren is metallic but it was the colour rather than the finish I was aiming for

Ruby Red Ral 3003

The Google images make it look about right. I have looked on your blog and the wheels look good. I might uy a rattle can of Ruby Red and see what it looks like on the curves of bodywork.

Look what someone on the Sammio forum has posted. Even the right colour

Interior?

Not sure yet. I have sort of run out of money at the moment. I have stripped most of the easy to remove interior plastic out already

This is now simply some hardboard covered in automotive carpet and looks okay.

The dash, central console and transmission tunnel is still BMW plastic at the moment though. Still trying to work out what I can/want to do.

I like the colour, a good period shade. Nick's car will be at the Exeter kit Car Show at the end of the month....there, I've said it now...damn.

And it will look lovely in that approximate colour of primer. Who knows, Nick might even get a chance to drive it before then!

Keep up the great work Chris!
