well, after selling seanick his base car, watching the evolution take shape, and Chris's fine hospitality when we initially drove down.... I'm on the look out for my own base car...


So Chris, expect a call....

Performance is my aim, and plenty of it. After missing out on a Flying Miata V8 conversion subframe , then I'll have a plan to shove something else in the front end for power...300bhp+ be a nice aim, but realistically 250bhp (ish) is the realistic prospect, naturally aspirated only, and more than four cylinders....

Just need a decent base car, so let the trawling begin!

ah, but fair few electrical gremlins with those... We get a nervous twitch at work when one pulls on the forecourt... too many throttle bodies, wiring loom repairs etc!

Guessing you would junk any wiring whatever engine and megasquirt it. The gearbox would need some thinking about which is why the granada would be good choice.

A chap locally machines bell housing adaptors to fit either BOA or BOB to fit type 9 sierra/capri gearbox (I still have a 'box spare from my White Rose Locust for mocking up/trial positioning), and is a direct copy of the original Ford part, MT75 Granada/late Sierra box an easy fit too, but not as cheap (Cosworth spec the most desirable)

As for wiring, the BOA is a doddle to wire/fit, I've done one in a Capri before, the BOB a bit more of a fiddle due to the PATS immobilser system, but I'm fortunate to have a dealer spec VCM/software to 'talk' to the ECU's etc..

In an ideal world I'd like a Nissan Laurel six pot on carbs to give the 240Z look under the bonnet with a gorgeous sound, but would need some mega fabrication, and I don't want to tie up the ramps at work too much! Pesky customers.... :-)

Alfa lumps are gorgeous, but RWD conversions a bit scarce for bits! Yet to see a happy mating of a gearbox straight onto the engine....

the base car has arrived......

Eunos 1600, taxed till end of the month, full history and import paperwork, 3 sets of keys, Cobra alarm/immobiliser, near perfect tan interior and Nardi wheel etc....

I failed its MOT on Wednesday, and the owner called me today to accept the offer I made.....

Tomorrow, new battery (wrong one fitted and insecure), two track rod ends, a patch to weld on the offside sill, and some front pads to pass the MOT :-)

You can move the battery retaining bracket if you want to save the price of a new battery.
You have done well to find a tan interior in good condition

I got a battery (Varta 3yr warranty) for £42 inc vat, so big saving over the Panasonic std fit!! Saved a bit of messing about as I only had a few hours to do the MOT work today at work... Managed tio do oil change, coolant flush and thermostat, new track rod ends, front pads, tracking, bit of welding and bit more cleaning before leaving at 4pm... Managed to squeeze in a couple of customer MOT's too!
So, start enjoying it now!
My V6 lump I've agreed to buy turns up Monday, so will start laying stuff out in the corner of the workshop...taken my tired type 9 gearbox to work, so can take some overall measurements etc...
