Driving to test centre

Hi guys. I know this has been done to death in the past, but as we are pretty darn close to a test now, would love some clarification on the following:
Can you drive your car to and from the VOSA station for the IVA test, whilst insured on the chassis number?
Also, IF it fails on something minor, but not deemed too dangerous to drive back can it be driven back for work to be done back at home and then re-driven down on another day to be re-tested?
I know lots if not all of you have driven yours there and back, however having enquired with Avon and Somerset police, and TVP they, both say it's illegal, but Gloucestershire police say it's ok!!!!
Would love to know if there's a certain someone who I could phone @ VOSA, or a website with reliable printable confirmation to take with, otherwise it seems a trailer will be needed, which is wrong on so many levels I can't begin to type them all!!!

You can legally drive to the IVA test - but you can't drive it to the local DVLA center after to have it inspected before they issue the Reg number. Bonkers huh. Just make sure you have all the paperwork with you though.

When I drove to the then SVA test I actually drove through a police road block. They didn't bat an eyelid despite the fact I had no number plates, no tax disk etc.

Don't believe all that you read, particularly from this Gov.UK site!

I looked up the rules on registration at Gov.UK
It offers a "Guide" which is just not correct.

Try looking up : how to register a kit car on the Gov.UK site.

Then look up INF26 from the DVLA.

For our type of car the conclusion in each is very different. INF26 says we are now classed under Section 5 as "Kit conversion" and with two proven major components from a donor we will be given an age related plate.

According to the "Guide" on the Gov.UK site, we would automatically get a Q plate awarded because we do not use the original chassis or a new one which is the same specification as the original.

The problem is that with conflicting information on two Government sites it just makes it more difficult for us to convince the Jobsworth at the local office that INF26 should take precedence over the Gov.UK site "Guide".

As Nigel says, go armed with as much support documentation as you can lay your hands on to back up your view, and do not be brow beaten!

No problem at all, mine didn't pass first time and they let me drive it back. They will only stop you from driving it back if they deem it to dangerous.

Wow!!! Thanks a lot guys, hoping to get a date in the next few weeks, will go armed with all the paperwork, really want a good drive to the centre!!!
