Default G46 external hinges

Interesting how the side vent take the eye away from the external hinges.
Also having the hinges in the same colour of the car, I did not even notice them as the overal presence of the car dominates. Sometimes I think we builders get hung up on little things that do not matter to anyone but the perfectionist.

The missing external door handles also helps show of the great lines.
It could take some time for me to figure out how to open the boot or the bonnet. Electromagnetic locks maybe?
or devious hidden catches in the cockpit?

Gaz, I echo CT comments will No1 be available for personal appearances anywhere between show?

Great to see you got the headlight covers sorted, any chance of some close up of the cover fixings?

Gaz will we get the compulsory shot with no1 owner in the drivers seat ?
(So you can update the sammio website with G46 pictures)

HM
I also think that the headlamps look a little small for the recess but, as you can see the screw fittings at the top assumed that there would be a chrome bezel put around them to hide these, this will also make the lamps appear a little larger?

Maybe even some sort of trim around the Perspex cover like on Tributes new model would help reduce the apparent size of the recess?

EDIT: just checked the tribute thread again and it isn't trim on the tribute headlamps it is just a full circumference lip.

Any thoughts on this Gaz?

I agree with everything that has been said about the headlights and its something that I will have to address as the set up at the moment would allow water behind the cover quite easily and although there is a drain hole it would only annoy me having is slosh around in there. My thoughts to fix this is to bond/glass a strip all of the way around the inside of the cutout and maybe cover that is a thin rubber strip forming a lip around the circumfrance that would make it water tight and also make it look a little smaller. Im also planning to make the interior of the headlight a little smaller by making an insert out of aluminium to wrap around the headlight.

I probably have not explained that very well but will post some pictures when I get to that job.

The car is staying in Poole for the moment as Mike will be flatting the paint and giving it a polish and also getting the car running and MOT'd before I take it north and fit out the interior.

The next show will be Stoneliegh I guess and I plan to be driving the car much sooner than that so the car could be available for any personal apperances. Maybe we could arrange another Sammio meating in the new year.

The door catches are just very simply pull ring type inside the inner door. No need for outside handles unless there is to be a roof on the car.

The side vents that I added are taken from a range rover sport and were added to give the car a little more detail but I agree that they draw the eye away from the external hinges.

CT, all G46s will from now on be made by Mike. Im happy to supply you the headlight covers and bootlid at cost price so will have a word with Mike to find out exact costs for that. To be honest the supplier for the perspex parts have bigger fish to fry and we dont seem to be a priority (hence no screen on No.1 at the show!) so this may be something that we have to look at and go elsewhere.

Those 7" headlights do look a bit lost in there, which is a shame.

These people may have what you're looking for though as they specialise in, erm, specialist lamps -

Hope you've got deep pockets...

Default Inspection

Gaz

At what stage are you planning to have the car inspected for the re-body or have you already done so.

The car was inspected a few weeks ago now and had no problems at all. Gary took it down to the Bournmouth station I believe.

The hinges were the one thing that stood out as not quite working for me.

That close together they're going to put a lot of stress on the bodywork and I know from experience that the hinges themselves are rather prone to wear.

Just a thought, but perhaps a version could be offered with the door hinges shaved and the doors bonded into the bodywork like the General Lee off Dukes of Hazzard. Mmmm, Daisy. Maybe it could be an extra cost option...

I don't think they meant to spray the hinges Micha, I think it is just a bit of overspray

Deffinatly overspray, the TUV would not be happy with that!

Actually Micha, I asked for them to be sprayed the same as the car as that was my preference. I appologise for not consulting with you on this matter. Cock!

Gaz, have you any idea what needs to be in place before the change in registration can be completed, ie body, lights, etc.
I have also heard via another source that vehicle registrations may be changing in 2013 due to EU fiddling.

HM, the body needs to be bonded in place but that is all, doesnt even need the bonnet.

I have also heard via another source that EU fiddling will present a problem however a third source tells me that the original source is a cock and there is actually nothing to worry about.

As always, local VOSA stations can often not have a clue what they are talking about which can be very annoying to say the least. Im not sure if any inspections have gone through more locally to you but Andy tells me that Preston VOSA are very good and helpfull which although far from local its a lot nearer than Bournemouth should you need to go elsewhere.

Hi micha, it was sprayed by me, and yes it was me being lazy. But i only had a week and a half to fill and get some paint on the car . It give s people a better
example to see all the curves and as for the hinges we run out of time to sort out better examples and just got even lazier and painted them.
For 99 percent of people on here will understand this, but what ive seen from you , your just a bit of a know it all. So now ive pointed this out please go and try and get a life

Gaz that's great info, I do like the word "cock" one of the gems of the English language that passes other by.

HM, AH what do you think of getting a joint booking down Poole way to have our cars done sooner rather than later? might be totally impractical but worth mentioning.

My car has a V8 in it which has not been changed on the V5 yet, does anyone know if it has to have engine and box in place for the inspection.?
