Default 2l Turbo from 820 vitesse

Hi, I have and engine and ancillaries ECT from an 820-vitesse turbo, after speaking to Mark Matthews, he seems to prefer the K series engines. I have read a few items about the use of the T series engines and have concerns over what modifications are necessary, oil coolers ect.

Some people have fitted the turbo, so how difficult are the mods, and approximately how much can I expect to spend.

I have been out in a 1600 K series model, and was very impressed, but after in the past going out in a 2l turbo, kit car was very pleased.

Alternatively, how does the car perform with the VVC engine, one the maybe worthy of consideration.

Don't forget the Honda I-Vtec Engine as well. I was going to use a VVC engine had all the bits then found a reasonably cheap low milage Honda engine so I'm using that instead.

Default Engine Choice or To Turbo or just follow.

Hi Everyone.

Yes, Mark seems to prefer the k series 1.6, it seems ideal for most people, you only need to read a couple of the reports and threads on this site from Dylan to realise that for most this is the 'sensible' option.

The engine fit seems simpler for starters.

I am not sensible, I could have had doors, but no the doors are not macho the Turbo has always been the way to go for me. This is after all my 'other' car, my wife can not even get in it let alone drive the thing.

So, in a nutshell, yes there are a few problems that need a little imagination and the odd bit of advice from other builders to solve, but let me assure you, I will be a Turbo 5EXi owner who will not look down on those poor souls who only have a 1.4, 1.6 or indeed a 1.8 to push them along. not for me the nahnah na nah na as I have a turbo.

Did I mention that I have a turbo yet? Can't beat the sound of the waste gate fluttering.

Just applied for SVA test for my 5EXi Turbo too.

I suggest you buy the car put any engine you like in it, you will not be disappointed.

Regards to all builders of TURBO'S
and everyone else for that matter.

There are quite a few experienced Turbo builders. Brian built his 5EXI using 800 donor. Mods are not difficult once you know how. Just ask and you shall get so good advise.

One point. There are two different 800 T series. 180 HP and 200HP. Difference being the exhaust cam I think.

Hi Steve,

If you've got the T16 already, just fit that...remember you can never have enough power :-)

Mods were not difficult, we've already done them for you, so just ask here and we'll help out.

You'll need to source a variety of bits from different cars, eg: 1600/1800 rear hubs and gear linkage assembly, a diesel driveshaft (nearside), etc...

Best option for you I reckon is to get a 1600 P Reg donor...

GO GO Turbo

If you have a option choose a 820 turbo that uses a MKC 10117 ECU as this has no Alarm / imobiliser to worry about. If its got a wire to pin 13 on the ecu thats the imobiliser.

I was told that the only real difference between the two engines is that the boost was higher on the 200 bhp but the earlier engine has stronger pistons that you can easy boost to 200+ bhp

Hi steve and welcome,
I built the turbo version purely because it was the most powerfull unit at the time and pound for pound where can you get that sort of power to weight for that sort of money. I don't think it's necessarily the best option for everyone but it aint much more expensive. The disadvantage with the turbo motor is the weight compared to k series. I haven't done a track day yet like Dylan but it's absolutely brilliant through roundabouts. The turbo has virtually no lag and just pulls all the way. I think whatever decision you make it won't matter because it's a great car whatever motors in the back, as long as it's a turbo.(sorry couldn't resist).
