Default Why relaunch old kits?

Seeing this http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/kitc...p?shownews=100 in the news section, really makes me wonder why they do it.

Don't get me wrong, this car looks amazing. I would love to have a kit that looked like this.

BUT why?

Why can't we bring it into the 21st century?
The body shape etc is lovely, but you need a Datsun 'Z' car for the donor. Not exactly available at every scrappie . . . .
I know where there is a 260Z for sale at the moment - £7995. These cars are appreciating now, not the sort of donor you rip apart eh?

Why couldn't they build a nice spaceframe and fit a modern V6 of something into it?

Easy answer is development costs. I'd imagine developing a space frame chassis and all that entails would be pretty expensive.

This particular bodykit has been brought over from the states so is 'ready to go' - low overheads.

I agree entirely with your sentiments though.

I seem to remember years ago someone built an absolute peach of a 250 GTO replica, right down to every last detail. From what I recall it was going to go into production but Ferrari had other ideas! Maybe this is another reason why people may be reluctant to sink lots of money into projects such as this.

There was a Porsche 944 based 250 GTO bodykit showing on the Italian replica club stand at Donington - brings it a bit more up to date. Was a around £7k though which is a bit pricey for a few panels of fibreglass.
