All the finished GRP panels are now made, in black gel, and placed on the Z3 (front end still needs alignment). Existing door quickly sprayed black to give a better impression of finished effect.

Time constraints for the Exeter Kit Car Show mean that we aren't doing the "frenched" rear lights, vents and side pipes as Nick has requested until after the show.

Really like the back end! The D type lights suit it!

Tribute - Excellent work as usual Chris & Dan.

WCA - Your whole vision for this project was really paid off.

I'm looking forward to seeing the final, on the road, result.

Cheers, Paul.

Scottie - the back end is basically a modded d-type which is why the lights suit it.

Chris will be doing further mods to add some vents and then french in the lights similar to this

Thanks, I do like it but have you seen the price!

It's a glorified Dinky toy and they want nearly £300!

I will make do with what Chris is building, but thanks for the link

I take it you don't want my £75 off voucher then

Also, best hope that Chris doesn't see this or he'll put up the price for his full scale version!

To mount the new GRP bonnet we removed the outer steel skin from the Z3 leaving the inner frame, hinges and latches.

This framework was then bonded into the new bonnet.

We had removed the rear silencer for clearance when forming the bodywork and in readiness for Nick's preference for sidepipes, but due to the lack of time before the Exeter Show we quickly fabricated a dual tailpipe section from 2nd hand bits in the workshop.

The Z3 has a fuel filler just behind the drivers door, with a flush fit cover/door. Nick fancied something a little more period to match the new body.

With the body now properly mounted in place we did a little prep in the time left and then put up a temporary spray booth.

Primer on....

.......and a bit of colour.

I have to admit that I have always left painting cars to others, but this time due to time limits and the fact that the car will be coming back into the workshop for more bodywork (more vents and different light set up) I thought I would have a go at the paint. It's not perfect. It should have had more preperation and a really good flat 'n' polish to give a good finish, but I am happy that it will show off the curves of the car far better than primer would for the Exeter Show at the weekend.

We are fitting the car up in the morning and then driving it the show. In the rain probably

First picture of the fuel filler looks like you sticker blitzed it. Just the reflection thankfully.

Colour is a bit redder and less ruby than the final plan but looks good.

I like the twin exhaust pipes but will probably stick with the side exhausts. What does it sound like?

If you can mount the boot straight I am actually quite taken with the high level light. Not exactly period but can you leave if there up until I get a chance to see it.

Great work Chris
