Default 5Exi build helper ;)

Hi
Just thought I'd introduce myself...
I'm Grant, and I've helped (some might say hindered!) John Byrne with his T16 powered Marlin 5Exi.
I specialise in the tuning of the T16 turbo lump, and I've got a Rover 200 (mk3) with a T16 turbo transplant in it.
I've come across some very interesting things with the 5Exi, and can't wait to get John's new engine built so we can show you K20 Engined peeps how fast a proper one goes

Cheers!
Grant

Will be good to compare standard one's. Both the same power etc.

A lot I would think is knowing how to drive them to get the most out of them.

Steve
I have tuned a K16 VVC in my own road car, and I currently have a VVC engine for sale.

so how much bhp is going to be produced by the engine you are building for John
I am just going to fit the K20A2 standard for the first year allthough i mite put a individual throttle body kit on it
In the long run i think i am going down the N/A route
As turbos require a differant bottom end to get the best set up

About 220hp while running in.
And about xxx hp when done
The K20 engine isn't mega-mega light, so I'm guessing you will need well over 300hp to keep up...

I heard that as well. I was chatting to someone. He said it took three to lift it around. That was the same for the Tseries lump I have. I think they must be about the same weight.

I've not weighed my engine, but using a pretty unscientific approach (how easily I can lift one end of my engine stand to get it about the garage), I'd say the k20 is inbetween the weight of a VAG 1.8t, and a Ford Sigma. On the presumption the t-series is analogous to the 1.8t (iron block, alloy head, and a turbo).. I suspect the k20 is a bit lighter............. However the gearbox being 6-speed is quite possibly heavier than the 5-speed rover item, which might scupper any advantage of the engine?

It'll be interesting to see how the chassis copes with such a high output t-series. When the car next runs at Combe, can you let it be known on the forum? I'd like to see it in action, and I'm close-ish to Combe.

Roughly:
K series 1.8 fully dressed (without box) - 89kg
T series 2.0 turbo as above - 178kg
K20 as above - 155kg
