Is it necessary to get your car reregistered?

I just collected my Z300S from Chris at the weekend. Is there any problem leaving it registered as a BMW Z3 other than confusing plod or who ever wants to buy the car?

I understand you will have to tell the insurance company that you have modified it but do you legally have to reregistered?

I am also in Hampshire so will try to find out but I bet someone else gets there first.

Wca is right you don't need a check. Guessing you want to to rename the car....

You will need to make the changes on your V5 and post it to Swansea. They will then come back and tell you to get a VIC. This will be done at your local vosa test centre.

If you go here https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-identity-check-site and navigate around they will tell you more.

Just to make sure I get this right. There is no need to do this. It is just a cost with no benefit.

Right?

Personally i disagree, unless the V5 is updated with any required checks you give your insurance company an out even if you tell them its modified. I also suspect that if you got pulled your friendly traffic bobby may also have a few things to say. Mr Towed os probably best placed to give am insiders view.

It is ok to leave it as it is as its a rebody, but this does not sit well with me so will be trying to change my V5 to Tribute MX 250 C, not replica or the "F" word as its not exact. The problem as I see it is DVLA now insist on keeping the manufatures name but will change the model, as mine is a Mazda as is yours this causes a problem as Mazda also make a Tribute (grey import MPV) so it may have to be registered subject to VIC as a Mazda 250c replica. or Mazda 250 Spyder who knows what they will settle for?

I'll just open this jag-jar full or worms

After building you have a RADICLY ALTERED VEHICLE.
The V5 detail, make and model, are wrong and must be changed to read correctly, you responsibility.

Your insurance will not pay out if the V5 is wrong, part of the insurance form says "any alterations or modiforcations" "

If you vehicle is tax exempt them obtaining a tax disc with a incorrect V5 is technically fraud so your tax is also invalid.

My advice is you NEED to inform your insurance company and the DVLA.

Of course, at the end-of-the-day you can just do what you want. You just hope PC plod "knows nothing"

My reply is over on WCA's build - in a nutshell, regardless of whether it's required by law or not I'd recommend changing the V5 to something suitable so you don't constantly get stopped by the law. If your V5 says Mazda MX5 or BMW Z3 and your car doesn't look like the car that the PNC check says your registration should be on, you're going to get stopped. A lot.

Hi Jason. What you need is this form:

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...pection-report

I can fill one in for you and book the car into our Poole VOSA station for you. I just need all the info about your car (Reg, VIN etc) , your details and what you want to call the car.

You would have been ok until Dec last year, when the MOT rules got tweaked again. If it says Herald on you V5, it has to look like a Herald. Don't ask how I know!!
So from then, IF your MOT tester is up to speed with current regs, he/she MAY decline to put it on the ramp.
The inspection is, apparently, quick and painless!

Thinking about this my car is not a Mazda but a Eunos incorectly registered when imported so mayby a Eunos Tribute MX250c would be ok.
