Default Bread based extraction

Just prepping my M20 for its final (hopefully) installation into the chassis.

While fitting the new clutch I decided it was sensible to change the spigot bearing.

A bit of head scratching on how to get the bearing out led to the discovery of a bread based solution on the Internet. The idea, pack the back of the bearing with bread (I used wholemeal!) through the centre hole of the bearing and then use a drift to punch out the bearing.

I was a bit sceptical, but in the absence of another idea and having no puller I gave it a go, it works like a dream.

So pleased to confirm to any who have not used it, bread based extraction is a reality not just an online myth!

And if you'd used Allinsons, you could claim that it's the bread with 'Nowt taken out... Apart from spigot bearings'

Its a case of poke the bread (not crust ) through the centre hole of the bearing to fill the void behind and then pack in tight with a bolt that is a good fit in the bearing hole. Keep adding bread and tap bolt with hammer, the bearing is forced out under hydraulic pressure.

The picture shows the bearing on the bolt with the bread plug.
