Question Exhaust Fitting

Hi...

After the euphoria of the engine starting, I thought it a good idea to fit the exhaust properly.

Has anyone else had problems with this area?

My manifold to cat pipe seems to be exiting to far to the right of the car centreline and doesn't line up with the silencer pipe......and if it did the silencer won't hang on the runners without fouling the rear frame.....

Tried warming up the pipe to 'set it' but stainless steel 2 1/2" pipe beat me.

Think I'll fit the handbrake cables and dash while I figure it out..

Any ideas??

Rich

Default Same Problem Here

Hi, I had exactley the same problem. I have spoken to marlin and they said you just need to cut the cat replacement pipe down then that will give you a bit more room. I for one am not happy with this solution so I am going to take it back to marlin so they can sort it out. Sorry I cant help any more.
Glad to here your build is progressing.

I too have had exactly the problem you are describing. I managed to get the silencer pipe not to foul on the rear frame by putting some wooden wedges in between the two and leaving for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if the pipe or the frame has bent but there is a clear airgap now and they don't touch even when the engine is running. I had to wedge the engine to the chassis to stop it moving forward when i put the wood in.

Still the silencer does not hang straight and doesn't look too good when the rear body panel is in place. I'm not sure quite how to fix this one so if you figure it out let me know.

Good to know I'm not on my own!

Problem is, I'm fitting a cat to mine so cannot cut this down to suit the length......think I'm going to have to have the silencer amd pipes modified.

Rich,

On my T16 turbo I had to cut both the silencer pipework and the lower pipe at the bend to make the cat fit. I reckon I took off about 25mm off each pipe.
It fitted very well after that...so get you're angle grinder out!

I also found that when fitting the cat replacement pipe that it was too long and thus had to cut about 25mm off that.

It all fits well now...

HTH,

John
