Default How about a 'Boxster Speedster' ?

Hi everyone, having bought a boxster a few months ago I can't help wondering what cars it could be used as a donor for as a mid engined rebody.

I've thought about the Jag XJ13 but the wheelbases just don't line up at all, but the old 365 speedster doesn't look too bad (excuse the quick photoshop bodge)

any other ideas?

I was speaking to the tribute guys last year at stoneleigh about exactly this and Chris said he may do Photoshop mock ups if he ever gets a minute. He also had a source for a body. Ed.

I really like it! The line needs to continue through the door and change the door handle and it would be almost there for me, however the air intake would be a big problem.

Its good how is still a porsche. And boxsters are cheap as chips these days.

Yeah - the mock up was quick - I agree about the line carry on, and maybe the vent could be changed to something a bit more retro looking

Looks good but there's quite a difference in size between a Boxster and a 365, they're really quite small.

Great Photoshop but I think the 2D is hiding quite an issue with the curvature at the top of the boxster door whereas the speedster body is a totally different curve. The boxster door also tucks back in toward the bottom. You'd have to reskin the door to have any chance of coherency I think

wheelbase Boxster (Porscher 986) 2416mm

wheelbase Dino 246GT 2314mm

makes it about -100mm (~4inches)

wheelbase MGF 2375mm

Miura 2500mm

Porsche 904 2300mm

Porsche 914 2450mm

Porsche 356 and 550 have very short 2100mm...

A while back Mister Towed posted this photo of a Porsche Boxster next to a Porsche 550.

Plus there was this photo of Mr T's Sammio Spyder next to a 911.

So clearly the modern Porsche is going to be bigger, but I don't see that as a problem.

A "Tribute" Speedster would be a modern take on the classic shape, not a replica.

I don't see any problem with it being bigger than the original, as both Mini & Fiat did the same thing.

Although personally I'd still like to see Chris & Dan take a break from development for a while just to get a bit of a rest!

Cheers, Paul.

There was an early undamaged Audi TT on eBay recently- Buy It Now for £2800.
Could the floorpan stand a little bracing and still perform?

Never been that interested in them so hadn't watched prices at all- an even better bet for a donor then- how long until their cabrios follow them down to a reasonable price...

When I saw this thread on the Boxter Speedster I had a bit of "Deja Vu" as it was an idea I had posted up on the forum about 20 months ago.

http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/foru...ead.php?t=4577

I still think its a good project specially when you see the offerings of other manufacturers such as PGO in France which sell a BMW based modern classic style Speedster for around 38,000 Eur. Here the advantage would be its a Real Porsche. I dont think it would matter if the overall size wasn't exact as the idea would be to create a modern version Porsche Hot Rod, also known as an Outlaw Porsche. If you want something exact just buy a Chesil Speedster.

An Audi TT has been mentioned. Prices are really dropping with these models. A Speedster Style could also be built up with one of these.
