FAO everyone who wanted to know if 9J rims fit at the back
I've done a bit of experimenting with the rear wheel off my daily driver. It's a 9Jx17 with 245/40/R17 tyre.

... but here is the problem! The tyre rubs on the side of the bodywork. Our body work sticks a bit further out than normal due to the coil over install. I don't think it is practical to use an alloy bigger than 8.5J. You might get away with a 235 width tyre on a 9J rim but its very, very close.
Here's a comparison of size between the 9J and the standard E30 7J with 205/65/R15
Patrick, what stud pattern pcd were on the 9j wheels and what offset?did you have your 30mm spacers on or the 5 stud conversion? Would they fit if your spacer was 10mm more?Cheers
The wheels are Alpina to fit an E46 BMW with 120pcd and ET46 (I think, but need to check!) I was using the 4 - 5 stud adapters I have without extra spacers.
I think if they were moved further out they would hit on the wings with the suspension under compression. I think with 235 width tyres and the wheels a bit further out it would work.
I need to cut the body work back a bit as the brake hoses hit with the suspension compressed so they may fit better like that. The other thing to remember is that with the coil over set-up the car is much lower than normal at the back.
