Evening all,

I've come to a bit of a head on my build - to progress I need to know the engine runs, and I'm waiting on my ECU to return.

In the meantime I'm going through adressing a few odds and sods that could benefit from some modification from the Marlin design.

The main thing that bugs me about my car, is that the steering wheel appears to be mounted on spagetti. If I grab the wheel in my car I can move it around more than I like, and I can clearly see the supporting steelwork flexing.

I'm planning to put some bracing in to stiffen up the area, and also put in an additional mount for the column (in place of the box section that currently connects to the pedal box).

Anyone else noticed a similar high level of flex, have you done anything about it, and if so what?

Yep been there mate.

What I did was connect the Marlin box section on the colum to upper column mount. Bit hard to explain. I'll see if I have any pictures of it.

If you look here, third picture down, you can just see the other mounting point on the column. The top of the pedal box.

I've already got an extra bracket, but the part that flexes on mine is the horizontal tube that the main part of the column hangs off.

I think it's time for flappy discs, and some steel webs...... I can't be doing with it how it is - after a day on track today, it hammered home how much force one puts on the wheel.

A lack of an ECU is a dangerous thing.....

Not the tidiest welding, but flappy discs should sort that.

hmm mine did not flex at this point. It was solid.

How odd - mine flexed like tubes of wet pasta.
