Ignition help needed!

12 Mar 2007, 12:22pm
I have attached an image of my ignition switch as I have connected the battery and cluster now, I am presuming that although the wire colours may vary that the positions of the wires remain the same so am hoping that someone can tell me which is which? which one connects to which colour wire on the marlin loom?

I think top right brn/purple is needed
top left is needed brn/wht
bottom right is needed wht/red

I think??

Thanks
Craig

I have a cad drawing with the ignition barrel logic on it.... I'll host it this evening.

Cheers John
I can get the handbrake light on with ignition but not the oil or battery and on crank light goes out which is wrong

Right bit of an update! Still not sure about ignition but here is what I have
postition 1 no shorts
position 2 black/yellow shorts to yellow and brown/purple
position 3 crank black/yellow shorts to brown/purple and white red but yellow is now dead

The way I have it at the moment when the ignition is turned the pump does not prime but the starter engages on crank but engine does not turn?

I know the engine is fine as it was running when Dan took it out the car

10 mins later and the petrol pump is now priming with ignition yipee but engine wont crank...............forgot to connect pump multi plug

Looked at taking out plugs to ease compression but don't think that I would be able to get them out or back in again it's about 8 inches deep to plugs could easily cross thread

Still don't have ignition right as only have 2 wires connected at the moment

any advice anyone

Right I have taken the plugs out and the engine turned very easily by hand with plugs in very good shape engine only done 20,000 so I must have gone wrong somewhere........still think it's the ignition

Have you got the larger section cable from the starter connected to the battery positive? Sounds like the solenoid is seeing current, but the main +ve feed isn't present, hence it doens't rotate.

Craig, is your ECU still standard, or have you already had yours Hondata K-Pro'd?

According to Hondata, either my ECU is toast, or there's a shady connection between daughterboard, and ECU.

Complete pain in the backside.

Hi, Thanks for the replys guys and diagrams!

John (limpabit) I have this diagram from you already and is what I tried to go off today

John when you say the larger dia wire for starter do you mean the wire that connects to the junction box? if so yes I have...what you have said though is correct the starter is not turning just extending into the engine!

I don't actually have a starter relay at the moment as I am not sure how to wire this in! All the other relays I have temp done so I wired the starter wire from the ignition staright to the engine harness pin 16 could this cause the problem?

John, my ecu is standard I decided like yourself to get it cranking first otherwise comeback might have been a problem 7 months down the road

Ps At least ecu's are not that expensive when they come up for sale

Craig there should be a large gauge wire from the starter direct to the battery. It's a big un, and about the size of a alternator feed.

If I remove this wire I will see exactly the same as you. You don't really need a starter relay, as the switchgear in the ignition is sufficient to switch the starter solenoid. I put a relay in, just because it would seem at the time I had too much time on my hands! Complete waste of time in retrospect!

Craig, do you lurk on any messenger programs?

I can be found on msn se97jsbd@hotmail.com.

Might be worth discussing the Hondata before you opt for it - I might be a bit buggered for getting mine sorted under warranty, as I didn't take some safegauding steps.
12 Mar 2007, 7:18pm
John, the wire you are talking about is the one that goes to the junction box (live) yes this is connected it is connected to the main live feed is it not?
12 Mar 2007, 7:19pm
On my car it went straight from the battery to the starter.
12 Mar 2007, 7:20pm
Currently not but I can download it or I can give you a bell whichever is easier for you
12 Mar 2007, 7:21pm
wouldn't harm to download it, as Jerry also appears on it from time to time. Handy for discussing probs.

Starter cable has white insulation.
12 Mar 2007, 7:41pm
Ok everyone I am going to be honest here but no piss taking!!!

With all the wires everywhere as you know John by your picture I in excitment forgot to connect the main live feed only had all the secondary wires connected to the battery

Engine cranks just fine now and It feels good

Cheers John for the prompt about starter cable thats what made me double check battery connections

even more excited now to hear it cranking after a year and a half
12 Mar 2007, 7:42pm
We have all been there. Don't worry about it.:)
12 Mar 2007, 7:43pm
It happens - mine's only badly connected at the momet, and the other day my starter did exactly as you described....

"oh crap.... damn starter is dead.... oh no, wait a minute... IDIOT" was how my internal monolgue went!

So I've been there too!
12 Mar 2007, 7:45pm
What I still don't get though is that damn ignition switch engine cranks on either wire
12 Mar 2007, 7:48pm
When i was sussing mine out, I drew up a diagram much like John's then from that drew up the switch logic for my own benefit.

Yours will have exactly the same logic (it's pretty standard - same on my shopping trolley daily driver, and the type-r) just the colours might be different.
12 Mar 2007, 7:48pm
John, I know how you felt a couple of weeks ago now!!!! All I want now is to hear it running whereas 2 hours ago I wasn't that fussed

Looked at messenger does it need to be microsoft (licences etc) or can I still get hold of you through another one, will have to do it tomorrow night as the other half is getting restless

Today has been a good day not only do I feel like I have crossed a major hurdle with my car I became an uncle 10 mins ago
