Now I have the rear body (temporarily) fitted I thought I would complete the installation of the fuel tank. On the top of the tank there are two pipes. The big one where the fuel goes in - but what is the small one for. Is it a breather - in which case what is it connected to?
Be aware that there are two separate functions.
I don't have a Marlin supplied kit for fueltank but examined the Ford standard unit carefully.
The big pipe is for the filler function of course.
The small pipe I use for a 16mm fuelpipe to return to the tank dop.
When filling in fuel you must be able to allow lots of air to go out of the tank to the side of the fillerneck to prevent to flow back through the fillerpipe itself, or the fuelhandle at the gasstation will think the tank is full !!!
I bought a small valve that goes through a separate hole. Maybe you can build it in the return pipe as well, I don't like Ford does.
This allows air to go IN the tank while driving and consuming fuel, otherwise your tank will collapse because your tankdop is airclosed !
Also this valve has a flexible fuelline on it that is open to breath but located in that way that if your car is up side down there won't go any fuel out of it !
