I have cut off the plates that hold the striker pins for the doors (to fit the new ones that Marlin gave me) and so have a bit of the chassis now with no powder coating on it. Can anyone tell me what the best match is in a finish you can apply yourself (I guess it will be paint of some sort).
I've been using satin black spray on hammerite on the odd ding and scratch I've put on mine.
Widely available, cheap & you'd be hard pressed to see where the 'powder coat' finishes & the paint starts. On places where I think it needs more protection, I've applied some POR15 paint, and then over sprayed with the hammerite once it's dry (I've done this on my front struts)
I believe Pete has used hammerite as well. I think Patrick has been using some special satin chassis paint.
Yes, that's correct, I use Hammerite black satin. Cheapest place is Wilkinson's but they don't always have the satin. I've also used Plasticote for metal, but it's a bit soft and scratches easily. The Hammerite is more durable once its gone off. The only issue with Hammerite is that I sometimes get a chemical reaction that causes little bubbles. Still haven't figured out what causes it?
