Craig, I don't believe there's a hard and fast rule as to what the diffuser is fixed to. For what it's worth, I have fixed mine to the underside of the main chassis tubes, and the bolt in rear subframe, but it could be bolted to whatever you want really - plenty of scope for fabricating a small frame to mount the diffuser as you please.
