Fitting the bonnet sides

3 Dec 2007, 4:36pm
I just completed fitting the bonnet sides. (pictures soon) I was surprised when I measured up the sides (after fitting) that the offside was 6mm longer than the nearside! I suppose this must be a "manufacturing tolerance".

Anyway something is clearly not square although it all looks fine when you eyeball it. Has anyone else had this problem (Or perhaps you are not quite so obsessive as I am LOL).

There is nothing I can do about it I suppose. I just hope I don't spend the whole time when driving going in a large anti-clockwise circle (think about it...) I'll be OK on the M25 :-)

Cheers

I must admit that I fitted mine to match the chassis and didn't use a ruler so no idea if mine is the same or diffrent lengths.
I wonder if the chassis jig is 6mm out or just a bit worn?
The 'laser' cutting robot must have been having a bad day?

But don't worry, you cant see both sides at the same time :D

I gave up using measuring devices when fitting the body, nothing is square! Most of it I did by eye!

When you put the bolts holes in at the front do them further forward than I did, less bending and better hold (I'm not over the rubber bit so will need to use a spacer behind)
