OK, I've shown my complete inexperience now. Hit my standard, long drop, zetec sump on a drain cover of all things, it's now cracked and, to top it all, I didn't find out till the oil warning light flashed up on the dual carriageway
I'mnow back home hoping against all hope that if I replace the sump the rest of the motor won't have bought it...
Does anyone have experience of either the Tiger or Westy shallow sumps? I see that some people have had problems with the cheaper tiger item but Tiger seem to think that's its OK for road use if you use the larger pickup they sell.
Well I've gone from zero to hero in just one week. I fitted a 'era' shallow sump from tiger racing along with a modified pickup. Bolted straight on and now the front sits just inside the chassis. The engine seems to run OK so I think I got away with it.
The only thing I need to do now is find a way to protect the bell housing which still protudes by a good inch under the car.
P.S. I can also say that Sue, Laura and the workshop chaps at Tiger were very helpful. They patiently answered all of my stupid questions and even replied to my email on a Sunday!
