Am trying to work out what cooling pipes to get to go up the tunnel.
Does anyone know the ID of the heater and rad pipes. The Marlin spec sheet seems to be only OD, but cant find any matching ones on car builder solutions or elsewhere so assume that the ID may be the same its just the wall thickness is different ???
Your right David. 28mm and 16mm. But make sure the rubber hoses are a slightly smaller id. Gives a nice tight fit. I got the same id as the plastic tube. Ended up with water all over Marlins workshop!
Yeah I agree Steve I don't like the sound of a join in the tunnel myself either. Especially as with my floorpan theres only top access to tunnel now. Do Marlin design it with a join there then Currently am inclined to use plastic pipes of some form up the tunnel but use Samco or equivalent where it shows. Hey its my mid-life crisis car its got to have some bling factor ;-)
There is a joint in the pipe, from rubber to plastic. Where you do that is your choice. For example, if you have the larger tank, trying to get the plastic and rubber etc in a nice curve, is a challenge. So might end up with the rubber joining the plastic, part way inside the tunnel.
I have 32mm ID hose from the engine to the radiator, then 32 to 28 mm Samco reducing elbows on to the radiator inlet / outlet.
I ditched the domestic plastic pipe, and used metal joiners with beaded ends / fabricated the t-piece for the thermostat / header tank return.
My heater hose is two continuous lengths from the heater connections to just rear of the rear bulkhead, where there are 2 no 90 elbows to allow the hose to run hard against the bulkhead around the right hand side of the engine.
My radiator pipework has four joints (2 in the flow, 2 in the return) running along the tunnel, as in the region of the gear lever I had to use 32mm od pipe to have sufficient clearance.
I used a VW spherical header tank, which has no air inclusion problems.
