Have any of you guys actually checked the E numbers on your lights?

I have just been checking my indicators.

The fronts are E9 - no mention at all in the SVA manual of an E9.

The side repeaters are E1 - in the SVA manual apparently OK for front indicators but the repeaters should be E5.

The guy on the SVC stand at Stonleigh said they never check the side repeaters anyway. (He even offered to pay for my SVA retest if his side repeaters failed. These weren't marked at all!)

So - I am confused. Perhaps the SVA man is just happy if they have an E on them?

Does anyone know any better?

My understanding was that the number after the 'e' refered to the country of manufacture?
Not sure what the numbers in the SVA manual refer to?

When I spoke to the guy at Staffords about some sidelights I bought last year that do not have an E mark, he reckoned you do not have to have them. If the lenses are appropriate for the age and type of vehicle they should be accepted.

Is he right?

That's the 6 million dollar question? I suspect it can depend on your SVA tester. Interestingly I was looking at my (2 year old) daily driver the other day. That doesn't have any visible marks at all on the headlights (which are also the sidelights and front indicators) I wonder if that would pass the SVA

Lights must display either an E mark or show an equivalent standard or display that they are of equivalent standard.

The bit in bold seems to be the get out clause but also the grey area.

I got e numbered items for all my reflectors and lights and then replaced them post SVA.

The problem is the as John's pasted that you need to prove a none e numbered light is equivalent of an e numbered one.

I would guess it depends on which SVA centre you go to.

When with a fellow 5EXI build the other week. The reflectors were E marked and bought from one of the shows. It failed on the radius. As above, it will depnd on the day with the examiner.
