Had a momentry feeling of success, yesterday as the stubborn nut on the exhaust manifold - tail pipe finally shifted, then realised as it cam off in my hand the bolt had sheared instead

I assume this is where the Marlin exhaust attaches.


2 questions:
Any ideas how to get the bolt out?
What is the wierd bit I can see in the end of the manifold, surely its not teh Cat (would expect that to be further down the car)?

Erm - if there is some bolt protruding, you may be able to get a stud extractor onto it. If it has snapped off flush or in the hole you can try to either a) drill out the core of the bolt and try to collape the remaining part in on itself using a punch or b) drill out all of the bolt, tap it to suit the correct helicoil insert, and then fit a helicoil insert.

Push it out with a ball joint splitter / a puller / wack with a lump hammer (the least preferable solution, given the potential to shatter the cat matrix).

Is the problem the sheared bit in the photo (in which case 'tap' it out like Alackofspeed suggested) or the bit that was left in the manfold flange?

If the weird bit is the honeycombe structure, then yes it is the cat'.

Was a bit surprised its the cat as it seems to be welded directly where the 4 manifold pipes join, e.g. difficult to see how it would ever be replaced, in most other cars the cat has always been somewhere down the tail pipe. Umm perhaps I dont need the Cat I ordered from Marlin afterall.
