Having ummed and ahhed a lot about what to do about instruments, I finally succumbed to a rerally good deal on a Dash2 at Stoneleigh. The photo linked below is a work in progress, but shows the digital instrumentation fixed in the standard Rover cluster.
I didn't go for the data logger as well - I thought that it would be easy enough to add that at a later date.
What engine are you fitting?
I've added a photo of the completed instrument pod, but it's not been 'approved' yet. I'll add a link once its up.
Yeah will be interested to see the final result, I hadn't thought of going down that route, I was thinking more along the lines of cutting off the existing binicle and moulding a new one to suit, and which would be easiliy removable for future mod's. A bit like Craigs but not modeled on a builders bum
The 'covers' are actually 4 black buttons that are used for menu settings on the Dash2 unit. They are positioned based around the original hole in the clear curved cover that existed for the tripometer reset.
The Dash2 unit is held in the white plastic casing of the original instrument unit using its rear mounting holes. I machined out the white body so that it fitted. The carbon fibre panel is a sheet of plastic that was cut on a laser cutter, and has the CF effect on it already. The units black surround and clear cover just clip on. The laser cut plastic surround is held on by 6 m3 countersung screws with nylock nuts. I've added extra screws (all with allen key slots) to make the spacing look more even.
