Good bodyshop Hampshire/Berkshire

13 Aug 2008, 2:28pm
My Sportster is in need of a coat of paint, can anyone recommend a good body shop in the Hampshire / Berkshire area?

I'm not looking for a quick blow over, but not a show winner either. Somewhere between the two - no orange peel for example!

I've had major problems before letting somebody else work on the car so somebody reliable who can work to deadlines would be great.

Hi Patrick,

like you, i've been looking for bodyshops for a paint job.
I don't know these guys but found them on the web some time ago.

If the weather improves I might take a run out to them to get a quote. They are about 30 miles from my place. I don't expect them to be cheap but they are experienced in dealing with GRP and i'm assuming TVR owners would have high expectations.

I got a qoute today from Autobody Technic. They are at Unit 6 Chancery Gate Business centre, Langley. (I assumed it was the place reffered to above which was next door and seemed to be more of an engine/car repair shop?)

Nice guy, seemed to know what he as talking about. (Porshe and Mercs in the shop)
Etch primer on the ali panels followed by three coats of primer all over and two-pack top coat. He's quoted me £1800 +VAT based on me dissmantling the car and taking all the parts to him.
For an addtional £500+VAT he'll collect the car to spray the chassis black as well. He thought a nice shiny gloss black would look nice. I'm not sure about that but it would weather a lot better than just the powder coat.

I also spoke to Ewelme coachworks this morning but they were 'just shutting' as it was BH weekend. They've suggested they can give me a quote if I send them some pictures by email, but i'd prefer to pay them a visit maybe next weekend.

That's pretty reasonable :) I'm not so sure about gloss on the chassis though
