Does anyone have definitive proof to the fact that you do/don't need an MOT to register a car after the SVA?
My local DVLA has sent me a pack of papers which lists an MOT certificate needs to be produced when applying for registration (Stated on form INF148, on the back).
Now I know that a lot of people have registered their vehicles without an MOT but it would be nice to know how.
Do you just state that 'my friend said so' and the DVLA believes you, or is there an official statement somewhere that I could produce.
I had to produce a MOT to get my registration that was at Exeter DVLA. But have not needed one to get the car taxed yet guess that will come when its 3 years old.
Chaps we had some similar debate on the EXI forum, I persnally registerd may car new so ne need for a MOT, for those who have gone the age related route follow this link, it may help.
I didn't need an MOT to register the car at Birmingham DVLA.
I was also told by the DVLA inspector that the SVA test counts as an MOT for the 1st year. So I guess the first MOT will be needed when the car is a year old and I need to renew my road tax.
After emailing the DVLA, their reply was (Quote) "If the DVLA require the vehicle to have a MOT before they can register it that is their decision, as the SVA is not an MOT." (End Quote).
So I MOTed the car, filled in the forms required and headed to my local DVLA (Bournemouth).
I booked the examiner to come round at 12:30 10th Dec.
He said that as the car is registered as a new car but with a year orientated registration, and as new, you don't need an MOT and was surprised that I had it done.
So it seems that there is no hard and fast rule.
So say yes, some say no.
Anyway, I agree with Patrick. It's worth having the car checked out.
The MOT station picked up things that the SVA overlooked.
