I've decided you need to be totally mad to fit one of these engines!
Nearly as mad as fitting motorbike throttle bodies
Anybody think of fitting a turbo as well........or maybe a supercharger

(well I was thinking about it, that for sure. I don't think my 2.8 stoker engine is suitable without a decompression plate though, and to do it properly it really is $$$ )

Hi guys, been meaning to join up here for a while, but most evenings been in the garage rather than on the computer
Also been meaning to thank you all for your pictures, they've been very helpful!
Got the chassis in March, did quite a bit, took it back to Marlin in October for some help in setting up the suspension, and tidying up the engine bay a bit!
Now working on dashboard, as I can't figure out how all the exhaust pipes fit together!
Anyone got any help on how to wire in the immobiliser? I'm using the original BMW engine loom but didn't take it out myself, so getting stuck on which wires go where!! Also trying to match it in with the wiring loom from premier-wiring. I'll post a picture or two.

Yes, the BMW e46 wiring is quite a challenge, as I am trying to figure out. What type of ECU do you have?
You need a matching set of ECU, EWS and key chip plus the key chip induction loop. Unfortunately my engine didn't come with all the wiring loom between the ECU (or DME as BMW call it) and the EWS so i'm on the look out for a breaker with a 328i for me to get all the loom bits I dont have.

Welcome to the forum - and from Bath - one of my favorite cities. Good luck with the E46 wiring. My car is E30 based so it was a lot easier.

Bet you garage isn't any smaller than mine - I have to move stuff around just to cough :-)

I am an electrical engineer by profession (Degree courtesy of Bath Uni!) I can help with general "electrical" questions but for specific E46 stuff you are best to find someone that has already done it.

Don't be daunted by this project. There is a load of great info on this forum site and shedloads out there on the nerdnet.

I'm just completing a E36 version and by just jogging along, doing one part at a time, you soon get the hang.
