How did you get the air duct on your alternator to face upwards after you had rotated it 180 degrees to fit on the off side?
Mine currently now faces the ground, and does not easily lend it self to re-directing up to the top of the radiator for cool dry air intake. If I leave it to face down and point forwards it will take water in when it rains, and if I face it backwards, the air rushing passed it will try to suck air away from the alternator?
What to do?

Sorry no magic answer! The alternator on my M52 engine had the air intake at the bottom, so when I rotated it, its now fortunately at the top! There was also just enough room for the original air intake pipe.
I'm guessing that the original BMW had enough bumper etc coverage to prevent water intake?
I would guess your options are:
1. new alternator (!)
2. position the pipe sideways, if there's enough room? or is this going to be too low anyway?
3. amend/extend the intake pipe so its high enough
4. Face the pipe backwards and see if the alternator overheats??
Has anyone else had this difficulty??

I would have thought that the alternator would be OK anyway. It's not like there are a lot of electrics on a Cabrio (unlike the donor which probably had electric everything). I suppose the only time it will really have to work hard is if you have been unlucky enough to flatten the battery.
