Guys - I plan on visiting my firendly local bolt supplier after work today to get some stainless fixings for the side panels and the bonets.
What size fastners did you lot use? I can't make out from the pics... M6 for the side panels, M5 (someone mentioned needing a new 5mm drill bit somewhere) for the bonnet hinge?
Also, how many fastenings for the bonnets? I think Peter mentioned 42...
I was planing on using 'mushroom' cap-heads, as I dont mind the slight protrusion from the bodywork as it looks a bit more in keeping with the 30's feel of the car.
I used M6 stainless dome head for the bonnet sides and M5 for the hinge. The number you need will depend on the hinge. It looks best if you line up the screw positions with the hinge divisions. (IMHO). Spring washers under the screw heads are a good idea for the bonnet sides - especially if you use rivnuts to fix them. Remember to allow for the reinforcement angle pieces when you size the bonnet top screws. As I remember you need about 16mm (I have a box full of 12mm that I bought and were too short - doh)
Went and got a whole load of stainless bolts last night - domed M5's & M6's for the body work, and some countersunk M6's for the door latches. I also got M5 & M6 stainless nylocks.
It soon adds up - I was relieved of £20 at the trade counter!
