I wired up the reversing switch last night, and stuck the multimeter across the terminals.
I think it may be duff, because I don't get continuity when the gearbox is in reverse. I see the meter drop to about 0.20, and then it starts very slowly to drop to about 0.15, and stay there.
Is this normal? I can't believe it is - a switch is either open or closed...
I guess the switch may be gummed up from laying idle for so long - although some taps with a spanner hasn't made any difference. I can't see a way of adjusting it either.

Multimeter's can often be misleading - especially the modern digital type as they use a very low wetting current. I would try a bulb and battery test first before you start thinking about replacing it.
