Long distance trip in a kit car?!

10 Jan 2010, 7:42pm
Hi all, I'm Chris.

I have dreams of buying a Caterham/Lotus 7 replica or similar this summer and traveling across Europe with my girlfriend.

Is this realistic or pie-in-the-sky?

I understand these cars are for enthusiasts who perhaps don't travel too far from home and can deal with problems quite easily. I have reasonable knowledge of cars but no idea if kit cars are too unpredictable to be many many 1,000 miles from home.

Are wet weather kits for emergency or can they actually be used to travel in rain?

Any advice very much appreciated! - Chris

Hi Chris, if you want to see how kit cars get on taking on long distances in Europe, have a look at http://www.guildofmotorendurance.co.uk

The next endurance challenge for sportscars is the Italia-Corse 2010, 3-8 October.
