Done a far few miles just driving locally today. "Testing".
Took the car to the local rolling road but was so busy. So could not fit me in to a test on the rollers.
But made a decision re mapping while there. My thoughts are, I'm fighting with weather at weekends. The only real time QP guys can get down to do it. And Woodbridge is on the 25/3/10. So wanted it done for then. So made the decision to get it done locally. Monday week it should hopefully be sorted. And if there is any problems at Woodbridge, the mapping guy will be there as well. Good/bad decision I'm not sure.
But tried some new wheels on the car I got for a song. My thinking is it will help to test different makes of tyres etc with different wheels. Standard 195/50/15. Fox racing ones.
Looking clean. The miles must be building your confidence!
As for tyres, I don't know how you find yours, but I've just got in and it's now pretty cold here (just below freezing), and my T1-S tyres are utterly crud when it's so cold! Was quite spicy on the roads, especially if one caught a build up of road grit.
Yeah getting a lot of confidence in the car and it's starting to prove it's reliability.
Actual had a chance to test the two sets of wheels. Originals have the toyos and the new ones just some crap budgets with good tread.
Test I use is pulling out of a give way quickly doing a right turn. The toyos I had no bother. The budgets twiched the back end with some wheel spin. Though it did seem very controllerable.
Use the budgets for drifting then!
Know do I keep the crap ones one for the airfield day with less grip to help get used to the car? Full boost with crap types. Hmmm.
I'm presuming Woodbridge is typical high abrasion runway tarmac, so even the budgets should produce a healthy amount of grip. That said, T1-S tyres are pretty budget anyhow.
888s are good fun on an airfield, and provide an amusingly high level of grip. They're rubbish as road tyres though, so I'd suggest destroying the budget tyres at Woodbridge, and replace them for the next trip with 888s or similar.
Toto have just brought out an intermediate between the 888's and t1r called the r1r. So might give them a good next time round. Might be a good compromise for road and track.
