Forms!

15 Mar 2010, 10:45pm
I'm busy filling in forms, so I can get on and get the car registered. I've got most of it done, with the help of the advice notes - but I'm a little unclear on some things.

V627/1:
Present Reg Mark - Do I put the donor car reg in here?
Taxation class - does the DVLA fill this in? Or is it PLG?
Year of Manufacture - 2010, I guess...
Currently licensed - No, right?
Place of Inspection - It says if different from overleaf. Does that mean if I leave it blank, the inspector comes to my home address?
V55/5:
Do I tick the LHD / RHD box - Or does the DVLA inspector do this?
Date if license to run from - Date that I send the forms in?
When I send the forms in, I plan on sending the MOT cert, the IAC, the donor log book along with the bits and pieces to confirm name and address.

Anything else?

V627/1
Present reg - leave blank
Tax PLG
Year 2010
Licenced - no
Place of inspection, well you can try to get them to visit you but when I built my previous kit car the appointment was in 6 weeks time...

V55/5
RHD
If you want to use it this month 1/3/2010, or next month 1/4/2010

Remember to take a photocopy of the IAC, you don't get it back. Also copy yhr donor logbook as they will keep that too, unless you don't care if they do.

Thanks Chris. Off to the DVLA this lunchtime to deposit the forms and hand over more cash. :)

Well, that was a wasted trip. Guess who forgot to take the Insurance and Marlin invoices with him? D'oh! ;)

I'll leave early tonight, pop home, pick up the big folder with *everything* in it and pop back down. Looks as if I'll get an inspection on Monday if I do that.

Hide your MOT unless they ask for it!

Inspection - Monday, 11:30am. :D

Trailer has been booked, Got the day off work. And no, I didn't give them my MOT cert. ;)

On a sort of related theme, I realise now I made a big mistake when I had my car inspected, as they said I couldn't prove the age of the donor car, so they gave me a Q-plate. Which I now realise means I can't transfer my personalised number plate on to it, doh!
So I went to the DVLA office today and they said they would re-open the case and have another look at it if I can provide enough evidence of the age of the donor parts. I don't have the V5 from the donor, so any ideas what I could use? I have an email from BMW confirming the age of the donor car from its VIN no and saying the engine would have been built just before this. Anything else?
Cheers
Tim
PS They seemed to want my MOT certificate when I had it inspected in order to issue the tax disc. But then if they gave me a Q-plate, surely that should be 3-years MOT-free anyway??? Curiouser and curiouser :)

The whole system is full of holes. Even if you have the V5 from the donor it doesn't prove that you used all the bits from it as the only item identified apart from the chassis is the engine by its number.

Can BMW confirm that the engine (by its number) was fitted to your donor (by its VIN). If so you may have a reasonable case.

As for the MOT, well if its a 'Q' then it is definitely not new as it is made out of a pile of odds and ends. As a result in may need an MOT every year. I just don't know, and is seems like nobody else does either.
