Has anyone thought of installing a rear valence to the rear scuttle area to cover the visible petrol tank or exhaust boxes?-carbon fibre would look well sorted.

I think for it to work it'd have to be done better than that blue car. It doesn't look right at all.

Something more sculpted, rather than ali sheet bent going straight down.

Maybe that it what Peter has in mind for the Golf V valance?
C'mon Peter, gives us a clue?

I have been thinking of something to fit the natural line of the back of the scuttle,under the number plate and have been looking at various production cars for idea,which may incorporate tailpipes also.

I'm half way through trying but my fibreglassing skills are rubbish. So far everything I've made looks worse than now having anything! I'm think of painting the back boxes black (except the tips) that should hide them a nit better.

If you raise the tank up so that it sits between the chassis rails it doen't hang below the rear tub. Its a much simpler solution!

How much higher? To hide the exhausts would mean raising it 100mm - have you any boot space left?

I have raised my tank in the Cabrio by around 30mm, so that the tank top is flush with the top of the chasssis rails, and the underside is flush with the valance, but it still leaves my silencers fully below the valance and on view

That golf rear valance looks very interesting....as did a close view on the motorway today of the rear air damn on a mazda mk3 mx5...similar in dimension and contour to the marlin rear valance area...seen at [url]www.mx5parts.co.uk[/url]

You could always spay the tank and hanging straps the same colour as the car, so that they're not as noticable...

....but that would mean the Gooster could never have any little Goosters!!

Probably a good idea. Goosters tend to drink petrol like there's no tommorow.

My Sportster is the same. Can't see the tank but you can see the silencer - but hey - its stainless so it doesn't look to bad.

No firm plans, just like the rest of you, I've been thinking about a rear cover and I'd like to find an existing valance from a production car that would fit the back of the Sportster.
The picture was posted with the intent of getting the discussion going but Jeremy 'pipped me to the post' (urgh).
I know if I tried to make something it would look rubbish. Something in Carbon Fibre would be nice to match my dashboard.

Jeremy, that MX5 Rear Air Dam certainly looks interesting....

Perhaps we could get Mark Mathews interested in designing and making one for their new demonstrator planned?

I guess if i appeared in a white coat in a hospital car park, lying under any mx5 with a tape measure making paper templates i may just be carried away by colleagues thinking i had lost the plot!......but i may just try!

Peter, have you tried the valance of the golf?

I think I might go for an extended drive up and down the A303. There are plently of front/rear bumpers and valances lying either by the side of the road or on the central reservation.

Grockles visiting this area do seem to know how the rear end shunt each other.
