Thread resurection! (well, it is nearly Easter...)
I'd forgotten to tell you I managed to get a lift. It's a mid rise scissor, which I got second hand off eBay. It was sold by Holden Classics (so I imagine it was bloody expensive when it was new

), but it cost me £600 + the van hire to collect it.
It's capable of lifiting 2 Tonnes, and handles the Jag very easily. It's portable (to a point) - You can roll it outside for more room if neccessary, and when you drop it of it's castors it sits directly on the ground.
The power unit is on wheels, and I've added a quick hydraulic connector so that once it's at the height you want it, I can lock it off on the frame to take the weight of the ram, and then disconnect the fluid pipe and coil it out of the way.
I't already paid for itself, doing services on the Jag and the Golf, Full Brake overhauls on each of them and the bearing change on the Jag. I've even done my mates Passat, and I've done a couple of oil changes for other friends.
Without a doubt, it's one of the best buys I've ever made. Vikki is sat on at the moment, awaiting her suspension rebuild, and with a touch of a button I can raise her up or drop her down to whatever height is comfortable. Bliss!
If you want to search out your own (and believe me, it worth every penny) you want to look for a Autec AL2006:
