Where the ball joints connect to the uprights, make sure you clean all the powder coat out. What can happen is when the nuts are done up, the powder coat left in there breaks down and the nuts can then become loose.
I wonder if it would not be better to blank off threaded areas before powder coating. It would save builders a lot of effort and avoid problems in safety critical components. I don't think cleaning out the powder coating will be that easy unless you had a tap, but when I looked in to it I found out the threads used on these joints are one offs.
I used to race karts and when we sent our chassis to be powder coated we made sure all threads were covered because we had to put it together afterwards and knew what a pig it is having to painstakingly retap threads, and that was with standard threads we had the gear for.
Can this not be cleaned using a demmel tool with a wire brush fixing?? There is a picture on the CD with someone doing this method.
Yes it can be done this way.
I think they are concerned the pic shows that you may need to clean it out a little to get the joint to fit and not, you need to get all the powder coating out.
