Can anyone help? I have just found a kit car in a shed and took it on. I have absolutly no idea what it is or what it is based on. There is no paperwork with the car and I cant find a chassis number. It has a "Q" plate on it but the registration is not recognised on any search websites. Presuming the car is put back in a roadworthy condition, how would I register it?
If Its got a Q plate then it is registered. Best bet is to phone DVLA and told them you have bought a car with no log-book but know registration and ask them what to do. It may not show up on any public databases but if it has been registered DVLA will know of its existance.
If it turns out to not have been registered then I'm afraid you will have to go through IVA followed by registration. That's going to be costly, and if the car is old then there are large number of items it may fail on that you can't fix easily (for instance e-marking on all window glass)......
