Going to fix in front-grill-have wondered about making it detachable-have thought about using the same stainless dome heads as the bonnet and side panels,putting one thru each of the areas in between the side cut outs, and secured behind the grill out of sight with large repair washers to fix the grill in.Any thoughts on this-would it look odd?
You could do what most of us have done, and bond either cable tie bases, small bits of tubing or set screws to the inside of the nose cone. Then you can use zip ties or nuts to hold it on, with out the fixings showing.
I belive Peter, Robin, Patrick and I have done this, and it works well.
have seen this done on the site-does it give a firm hold on the grill, and does it hold the grill tight against the back of the nose cone-I would like to achieve a look fron the front of having the grill fully flush with the aperatures, when viewed closely from the front.
I agree the bonded ty-wrap bases and ty-wraps are the simplest way and they work well. If you want to remove the grill (for painting for example) you just snip the ty-wraps. At about 1p each it's not much of a sacrifice!

I bonded the ali tubes to the nose cone with two part Isopon body repair stuff from Halfords.
I used some stainless stell cable ties but mainly because my son is an electrican and had some left over from a job he was doing. (They use them on fire alarm installations) but they are horrible to use as they cut your fingers to pieces.
I have seen pictures of a Sportster on ebay with grill bonding screws, so it can be done if that's the look you want.
