I don't know what has gone wrong..2.5i e36 engine or it's management has gone off..car starts on the button, and idles perfectly, but try and rev engine, it splutters and backfires both at exhaust and in air plenum, with no power..this is a new problem, and can't think of any changes made to start this.Diagnostics tell me fault 12, throttle position sensor..but have checked all values on a meter and all good, but replaced it anyway with maf,but no joy....I am beginning to think it may be ecu fault, not reading tps signal....Ihave had installed a total car cut off switch recently, and wonder if I have caused a voltage spike.Any ideas guys?
Are you able to remove the TPS whilst the engine is running, and rotate the input element of the TPS?
If the TPS ss working, then on cars I've tinkered with that use a MAF sensor for load calcs, they try and provide an acceleration enrichment (a bit like the accel pump on carbs I presume) and as a result the engine should change tone, and maybe struggle to run with the overly rich mixture.

As you suggest, look for what you have changed. Is the cut of switch faulty?
